The Foundation acts as the leader of the philanthropic community, identifying and exploring important needs and concerns, addressing serious problems, and shaping effective responses. We are proud to be a partner with the many nonprofit organizations and community groups that help make Steuben County a great place to live.

Recent Awards:

One mission of the Steuben County Community Foundation is to impact Steuben County. This is done partially through grants awarded 6 times a year. The next application deadline is February 29, 2012. For more information on how to apply for grants please contact

From the Foundation’s unrestricted funds:

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana - $2,000 - Program costs associated with mentoring 75 youth in Steuben County
  • Circle of Friends Scholarship Fund - $5,000 - To provide five $1,000 scholarships for Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship finalists
  • First Congregational United Church of Christ - $16,000 - Basement upgrades for area used by 200+ people a week from numerous local nonprofit organizations
  • Angola Area Chamber of Commerce - $5,000 - Assist in bringing the Red Tail Squadron Traveling Exhibit to Steuben County to enhance Angola Balloons Aloft event; contingent on additional dollars raised
  • Luke 3:11 Coat Bank - $5,000 - To purchase coats at discounted prices to restock for 2012 season
  • Faith Community Health Clinic - $3,000 - SpotChem EZ Analyzer (checks kidney & liver function and cholesterol)
  • Little Lambs Daycare - $4,300 - Computer equipment
  • Boomerang Backpacks, Inc. - $3,500 - Food for backpacks
  • Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #163 - $2,000 - Cops for Kids program
  • Helping Hands of Steuben County - $750 - Sewing and quilting supplies

From the Orland Community Fund:

  • Therapeutic Riding Center - $3,030 - Horse saddle for individuals with disabilities
  • RAD - $500 - Rape defense class in Orland for Orland residents
  • Salem Preschool - $700 - Chairs for preschool
  • Orland Police Department - $770 - Bulletproof vest

From the Hamilton Community Fund:

  • Hamilton Police Department - $775 - Purchase a bulletproof and stab-resistant vest for K-9

From the Steuben County Community Foundation Women’s Fund:

  • Luke 3:11 Coat Bank - $1,000 - To purchase coats at discounted prices to restock for 2012 season
